What Are the Different Parts of a Vape Pen?

A discreet and convenient way to vape, there are vape pens to consume everything from cannabis to nicotine and flavoured oils. You do not need to roll a joint or use anything bulky to provide yourself with the benefits of a specific vape juice or cannabis product. A vape pen will do it all for you. They’re able to heat quickly, almost instantly in many cases, and they’re easy to learn.

While the parts of a vape pen are very simple and easy to assemble, you will find that when you go shopping to buy a vape pen, there are so many types to choose from. Vape pens are marketed towards different groups and different types of vapes. Some are tailored to herbs, others salts or oils, some concentrates, and others to specific brands. What vape pen is right for you depends on what you want from a vape experience. Before deciding on the perfect Canada vape pen, you may often have to try some pens to get a sense of what you like or don’t like about them.

If you’re new to vaping, you may not yet know how they work and what part does what. Let’s learn about the different parts of a vape pen and what they do.

Most vape pens are composed of four primary parts – the battery, a heating element, a mouthpiece, and a cartridge, pod, or tank.

Vape Pen Battery

This is your power source. This provides the energy to heat the vape juice and produce the vapour. Batteries, as with similar portable devices, have to be charged. This is the standard through a USB cable or a separate charging dock. The type of battery used for a vape pen is a standard lithium-ion battery.

Vape Pen Atomizer

The atomizer contains a metallic coil and wicking material, usually cotton or silica. Another way to describe the atomizer is the heating element.

This part of the vape pen is responsible for producing the vapour, receiving the power from the battery and turning up the temperature to heat the vape liquid inside. The wicking material absorbs the liquid, and the coil heats it, resulting in vapour.

Types of Coils

Most vape pens have a metallic coil of wire wrapped around a small cotton wick. That’s how vaping has traditionally been done but what’s been found is that it’s easy to burn the wick, especially on higher voltages.

When you burn, the flavour tastes terrible, and the coil needs a replacement. An alternative is a ceramic coil which is wire wrapped around a ceramic cylinder. This allows you to use a vape pen at a higher voltage without burning.

Mouthpiece

The mouthpiece is where you put your mouth to inhale the vapour. It can be made from plastic, metal, or glass. Sometimes, the mouthpiece is a part of the vape pen and cannot be removed, but other times, it can be taken off, facilitating easy cleaning. If the mouthpiece is removable, that means it can also be replaced. They come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and colours.

Cartridge, Pod & Tank

The cartridge, pod, or tank is where the cannabis oil or vape juice is held. While these terms are used interchangeably, a cartridge typically refers to something pre-filled, while a tank is a refillable chamber. If it’s a tank that you have, there will be a fill level line indicating to you the maximum product you should put in.

Vape Pen Power Button

Some vape pens have a power button that must be pressed when you inhale. This triggers the atomizer to turn on. Some pens, however, are draw-activated and will switch on automatically when you inhale. If there is a power button, it can also be used to power on and power of the device, typically by pressing the button in quick succession.

Depending on the optional features of your vape pen, you may also cycle through different temperatures using the power button. How the power button is designed is very important, as you don’t want to accidentally turn on your vape pen when it’s not in use.

Vape Pen Settings

A vape pen may have multiple settings choices for a user to try. Different modes are programmed to customize the vape experience for the user. Temperature can prevent a vape from overheating or burning the battery coil. You may have volt or wattage settings as well.

A higher wattage means more vapour which is perfect if you like to do vape tricks! Comparatively, a low wattage means a stronger flavour and aftertaste, which others vape for. Some premium vape pens have a display screen showing data like the wattage, coil resistance, voltage, ampere, and puff count.
